Tonga Country Implementation Plan for 2023 – 2024
This Tonga Country Implementation Plan (CIP) for 2023–2024 builds upon the Pacific United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2023 - 2027 (UNSDCF) developed by the United Nations (UN) and 14 Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs). The CIP has been developed through extensive and inclusive consultations between the Government of Tonga and the UN development system in Tonga, including non-resident entities as well as with civil society organisations, Pacific regional organisations and development partners. The CIP aims to define UN actions and deliverables in Tonga to help achieve the outcomes of the Cooperation Framework and is firmly anchored to country-level needs and structures. The UN and the Government of Tonga are committed to working together to achieve the national development priorities, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and other internationally agreed development goals and treaty obligations. The CIP will guide joint efforts, and the collective results expected will help Tonga to ensure all people are equal and free to exercise their fundamental rights, enjoy gender equality and peace, remain resilient to existential threats, and live in harmony with the Blue Pacific Continent.
